I Fonted.

Some of you may have noticed the new background and header for the noggins. New for 2009. I figured we're never gonna get flying cars so, I revamped the site a little. It still takes forever to load but I dont know how to fix that.

Anyway, the font in the header is a custom font created by Yours Truly. I started messing around with fonts a while ago and have made a few. check em.

this one is called BOWELLBERALTA. its a copy of the classic 80's skateboard company Powell Peralta logo.

This one is called KOOBZ. It's a blocky geometric font I used to draw all the time and decided to make it an actual typeface. It's hard to read but I'm happy I did it. This one is called Captain. I named it that because it was originally supposed to only be in CAPS. Caps, CAPtain... get it? You could also say theres a James T. Kirk reference in there too. Anyway, This is the font I'm using in the new noggins header. I made this because I wanted a caps font where each letter had the same height and width. Then I got bored and made the rest. The lowercase isnt the best. It's kind of like a mutated Century Gothic. (my favorite font)
This one is called "Quickrite". I've always wanted a font that was my shitty handwriting. There's a ton of "hand" fonts out there but this one is mine! I scrawled the alphabet and some other shit on a page with a felt tip pen and scanned it low res.

Wilderness!

I might have seen a mountain lion yesterday while hiking on the Black Diamond trail.


It was pretty surreal, like seeing big foot or something. We were on a trail that runs up hill paralell to a paved trail/road and i looked back down and saw something about 80 feet away. It was sitting in the middle of the road. like a cat sits. then i think spotted us checking him out and got up and turned around and sauntered off into the brush. Due to the distance, a cell phone pic would be useless. sorry.




We weren't even sure if we were supposed to say anything but we told the park ranger and I think he was pissed because he'd never seen one in the 15 years he's worked there. He took my phone number and made me mark on a map where i saw it. He said he was gonna tell his boss and he might have him call me to verify it. He sounded skeptical that we saw it. First he asked if we'd seen it, or just heard it. How do you say you heard a mountain lion? He said it could have been a large coyote but it had a long cat tail. Like a cat.

5 Second Rule!

This morning I ate food off the ground.

I had a ton of shit in my hands coming from my car this morning.. backpack, coffee, netflix envelopes and a sausage breakfast sandwich from starbucks. They didnt put the little sticker they usually put on to close the bag and the bag was slipping from my hand and tipped sideways then fell out...open face, down on in the loading bay floor.

sausage patty touching concrete... egg touching concrete.. I really wanted it tho so I picked it up, put it back together, took it back to my desk and ate it.

I sensed the slight essence of what may either be sharp cheddar, or delivery truck residue. They push the dumpsters over that spot too... I hope I don't die.

Little Orphan Olive Garden

I could do a best-of 2008 post here, but I dont think there was any good posts from last year. None that stand out anyway. So I'll start the year off with this instead. The Olive Garden sucked.

For some reason, where I've lived most of my life there's never been an Olive Garden (or In N Out, or Sonic, but thats another story). About 5 years ago a new restaurant was being put in right by the mall, and we all hoped it would be an Olive Garden. I'd gone to one in like 1996 and thought it was great so we were always hopeful we'd get one. Then it turned out to be shitty Tahoe Joes who had horrible service and gave us moldy bread.

Fast forward to the other night. Some friends came out to our new place, where we happen to have an Olive Garden (and an In N Out!) and they wanted to have dinner there.

We get there and wait 45 mins for a table. We sit down and I start looking at the menu and it sucks. It was like the pasta section of the Carrows menu. Nothing unique, nothing special. Lasagna, Ravioli, Chicken Parmesian, spaghetti.. blah.

I wonder if the build up hadnt been so high for the elusive Olive Garden, I wouldnt have been so dissapointed but the food was Carrow's on a good night quality at best. But twice the price.

The endless breadsticks were a center cut away from being hot dog buns. And that salad you ordered is community property. I hope someone else doesnt pick out all the croutons.

Yea so, its like waiting weeks for your Little Orphan Annie Decoder Pin and finding out that it's just a crummy commercial for Ovaltine.
